We have been working with Fake Shore Drive since 2009 and it is our largest body of work to date. We recently launched the 4th site redesign and below we highlight some of the work we have done over the years.
Fake Shore Drive is our oldest client and is especially meaningful to co-founder Chris Taylor, who has been working with Andrew Barber on this project for close to a decade. Documenting Chicago Hip Hop, and accumulating an archive of almost 30,000 blog posts, Fake Shore Drive is a treasure for all music lovers on the internet. The relationship began with a website migration that involved moving the site from Blogger to WordPress; it has continued with multiple site redesigns and technical upgrades over the years.
Client: Fake Shore Drive
Category: Music Blog
Fake Shore Drive is a Chicago-based music blog and media company founded in October of 2007. Its primary focus is showcasing Chicago’s hip-hop and R&B scene, but its scope has since expanded to cover the entire midwest urban music scene (as of February 2013).
The company was created by Andrew Barber in 2007, who saw a void in Chicago music and artists getting national coverage on blogs and websites. Ty Howard, Fake Shore Drive’s managing editor and only other full-time employee, joined the company in 2010 and has been working alongside Andrew since then. “We really just want to get people to see local talent” Barber told the Chicago Sun-Times in 2013. “I felt like there were a lot of missing parts to the Chicago hip-hop scene — there was a whole story not being told.”
Before/After June 2017
With over 30% of website traffic coming via Organic Search, more than any other channel. Our SEO efforts speak for themselves; this would not be achievable without good content though. Check out our SEO/SEM page for information on our services.
Social Media is the 2nd largest source of traffic at 25%. Our efforts around auto-posting content to facebook, twitter, and google+ assisted in this and helped provide a steady growth of followers for each social profile. Enhanced sharing feature was integrated to encourage user engagement and increased reach. Check out our Social Media Marketing page for information on our services.
We have always strived to enhance the user experience on the website and have used Analytics to drive that process. Additionally, analyzing site usage related to marketing efforts is critical to understanding what is working. Check out our Analytics & Reporting page for information on our services.
Development is by far been the meat of the project overall if there is one. Balancing cost-effective hosting while maintaining a website that functions smoothly for all users regardless of the massive spikes in traffic that happen on a regular base. It hasn’t always been easy, but we have always found a way to make it work. Most recently we integrated SSL (https) to protect the end users privacy and security.
